Background

You can read all about the background to my weight-loss challenge from my previous blog however the short summary is that I'm trying to lose two stone in 13 weeks starting on 14th September and ending with the final weigh-in on 14th December. My starting weight on 14th September was 13 stone 12 pounds and progress so far is as follows:

- End of Week 1: 13 Stone 7.5 Pounds

- End of Week 2: 13 Stone 5.5 Pounds

- End of Week 3: 13 Stone 5 Pounds

- End of Week 4: 13 Stone 2.5 Pounds

- End of Week 5: 13 Stone 0.5 Pounds

- End of Week 6: 12 Stone 11.5 Pounds

- End of Week 7: No weigh-in (Half-term week with my kids)

Update for the Last Two Weeks (Week Seven & Eight)

During week seven all three of my young boys were off school and nursery with us. During these unprecedented times we were limited in terms of what we could do to entertain them (usually we take the opportunity to take them away during October half term). So on this occasion we unapologetically made the most of the little opportunities available to us. We ate out almost every day and we enjoyed each other's company. It was a lovely week but from a dietary perspective I ate and drank a considerable amount of calories. On this basis I made the decision at the end of the week not to weigh myself, purely because I didn't think it was appropriate or indeed helpful to make myself feel guilty for effectively enjoying a week with my boys.

For week eight this meant that it would take considerable effort just to get myself back to the same weight that I had achieved at the end of week six. Simply put it is much easier to put weight on than lose it.

During this week I've done one karate class (prior to the Covid lockdown) and walked about 16k, and I've also finally created enough space in my garage to use my multi-gym! During this period I've done two lots of weights but it means that I will also now be able to use this as a source of exercise for the remaining weeks as I increase the intensity of my exercise regime. I have also been relatively good at sticking to my calorie controlled diet for most of the week.

This Week's Results (Week Eight)

I'm pleased to say that I weighed in at 12 stone 12 pounds meaning that I've not quite returned to the weight of week six (12 stone 11.5 pounds) but I've still lost 1 stone in total since I started (apologies again for the photo of my Fred Flinstone feet).

This means that I now have a further stone to lose in the next five weeks. It also means that I'm now slightly below my expected trajectory in terms of meeting my 2 stone weight loss within 13 weeks (as you can see from the graph below) so I will now be stepping up my exercise regime for the remaining five weeks in the hope that I can get back on track. Wish me luck!

Donations for a Good Cause

In a shameless plug I'm also doing this to raise money for a good cause, Mental Health UK. If you'd like to offer a small donation all money will go directly to Mental Health UK and I would be eternally grateful. The link to my JustGiving page is below:
