Background

You can read all about the background to my weight-loss challenge from my previous blog however the short summary is that I'm trying to lose two stone in 13 weeks starting on 14th September and ending with the final weigh-in on 14th December. My starting weight on 14th September was 13 stone 12 pounds and progress so far is as follows:

- End of Week 1: 13 Stone 7.5 Pounds

- End of Week 2: 13 Stone 5.5 Pounds

- End of Week 3: 13 Stone 5 Pounds

- End of Week 4: 13 Stone 2.5 Pounds

- End of Week 5: 13 Stone 0.5 Pounds

- End of Week 6: 12 Stone 11.5 Pounds

- End of Week 7: No weigh-in (Half-term week with my kids)

- End of Week 8: 12 Stone 12 Pounds

This Week's Update (Week Nine)

This week really has felt like a challenge. The coronavirus lockdown has obviously meant that my usual karate classes, which act as a regular source of high intensity exercise, have not taken place which creates a huge void to fill in terms of burning calories.

Throughout this week I've done 30 minutes of weights on five separate occasions and have walked 17k. On the diet side I gave myself a little leeway at the beginning of the week in terms of keeping the diet below 1500 calories but from Wednesday to Saturday I was militant and during a period of lockdown I have to admit to having cravings for food and drink at a time where the little joys of life seem so important. Needless to say I will be making the most of my Sunday treat day today!

This Week's Results (Week Nine)

I'm pleased to say that I weighed in at 12 stone 10 pounds meaning that I've lost further 2 pounds this week. So that is now 1 stone and 2 pounds in total since I started (apologies again for the photo of my Fred Flinstone feet).

This means that I now have 12 pounds to lose in the next four weeks, so an average weight-loss of 3 pounds per week is needed to hit my target. It also means that I'm still slightly below my expected trajectory in terms of meeting my 2 stone weight loss within 13 weeks (as you can see from the graph below) so the next four weeks will be crucial. This also means that I need to reconsider my exercise regime over the next few weeks due to needing to hit an increased average weight-loss of 3 pounds per week and the need to fill the void left by a lack of karate. Maybe it's time to get the exercise bike out. Wish me luck!

Donations for a Good Cause

In a shameless plug I'm also doing this to raise money for a good cause, Mental Health UK. If you'd like to offer a small donation all money will go directly to Mental Health UK and I would be eternally grateful. The link to my JustGiving page is below:
